By Wayne Nicholsen Tulsa vs. City October 15th (Seymour Rugby Park) Kansas City, MO.
Kansas City hosted Tulsa R.F.C. a tough, determined Division II club from the Ozark Union. City’s forwards executed lineouts and open play exceptionally throughout the match and only equally exceptional cover defense from Tulsa prevented a blow-out. It took many great plays for City to crack the guard of the game Tulsa side, final score 36-14. In one such play City displayed their own amazing defense in the loose and 8 man Mike Haase stole the ball from a Tulsa runner. After quick play from the ruck, Mark Butler flipped the ball to Jimmy Logue who, just before contact, made a timely pass to Gary Tapusoa. Tapusoa, City’s standout center, made the big break through two defenders down the sideline. With teammates Harry Kuan and Mark Butler are on his tail, Tapusoa dummied to Kuan (who was hit without the ball) and dished to Butler for the try. Nearly every score followed a similarly sensational script. Nothing easy was conceded by Tulsa. They never gave up or hung their heads throughout the entire contest and should be commended for gutting it out under almost overwhelming conditions. For the second time this season Ray Camahort has earned Man of the Match honors. Camahort’s hands at times seem to give up on him and at others are absolutely sensational, but his turn of pace is boggling and he never gives up anywhere on the pitch. Tulsa’s exceptional performer was Spence Scott, who displayed determination, pace and great kicking ability. Gary Tapusoa also deserves credit for exceptional play on both sides of the ball. His ability to conserve energy to make spectacular plays is at times unnatural to witness. Few would want to line up against this guy consistently. Now if we could get him to shed a couple pounds (5’8” 250) he would be a truly extraordinary player. If Eagle selectors ventured into our neck of the woods he would garner a fair share of attention. There are several other players of note but these stories can’t be too biased. These write-ups aren’t as short & sweet as they need to be. 1 Danny Kapps 2 Harry Kuan 3 Matt Dockstader 4 Charlie Hirner 5 Andrew Jackson 6 Jason Kanak 7 Ray Camahort 8 Mike Haase 9 Mark Butler 10 Jimmy Logue 11 Allen Higbee 12 Danny Blades * 13 Neil Snow © 14 Joe Simms 15 John Nauss
