KCRFC celebrated its 45th anniversary over the weekend with an alumni match and banquet. It was a cold day for rugby but that didn't stop the players and fans from coming out in force. The old boys were able to field almost two full sides with current players filling the gaps and subbing in. The field, or the game for that matter, may not have been regulation with uneven numbers and rolling subs, but that didn't stop anyone from having a great time. Special thanks to Rick Houghtlin who stepped up as Sir for the match. The final score was 97-98, however the ref was unable to recall which side was up.
The banquet at The Rockhill Tennis Club was a great way to cap off the day with good food, great friends, and of course extravagant tales of former glory. Thank you to everyone who attended, Brian Cichello for organizing the events, and last but certainly not least, all the alumni who helped build and maintain the club and allowed us all to enjoy 45 years of rugby in Kansas City.
City is next in action against KU, Saturday October 17th at Mid-America Sports Complex. Kick off is at 1pm.
Practice will continue at Gillham Park (39th St. & Gillham Rd) Tuesday and Thursday 6pm until further notice.
Here's good glimpse of a great weekend. A big thanks to all who attended.
