City's league match against the KU Jayhawks on Saturday, October 17 yielded a nice victory for KCRFC. The weather for the 1PM kickoff at Mid America Sports Complex was a damp and cloudy 45 degrees but that didn't stop a good number of alumni and fans from coming out to support the team.
The first half was a back and forth battle against KU in which City controlled the ball the majority of the time in KU territory. Charlie Hirner scored the first try at 32 minutes making the half-time score 5-0 City. The second half opened with an immediate try by KCRFC Center Brandon Brunsman. With an interim 3-point penalty kick by KU and repeated City thrusts inside the 5 meter mark, 8-man Mike Haase made it across the try line at 70 minutes. City rookie Tim Hammerish, scoring his first career try, sealed the game at 78 minutes. Kicker Brandon Nagashineh went 3 for 4 on conversion kicks.
Allen Assmann was awarded Man of the Match for his stellar defensive work at fullback.
The after match was held at the Westport Flea Market where everyone who attended enjoyed great beer and burgers.
Always, thanks to the City alumni and fans who ventured out to support the boys.
