It is with much sadness that we share the news of the passing of Jay Flaherty #9203.

President's Message

We have all experienced quite a roller coaster ride over the past few weeks and months and I hope this writing finds you and your families well and in good spirits. Although we have all been away from the game of rugby since mid-March, we have not been apart, and I think that once we are able to be back together, the KCRFC will continue to get stronger. I think we have all developed a greater understanding and respect for what rugby and those involved offer and mean to each of us. On the good news front, it is exciting and extremely fitting that KCRFC’s founder Gerard B.A. Seymour is joining the ranks of the United States Rugby Hall of Fame and is scheduled to be officially inducted in August of this year! We should all be thankful for the efforts of Rich Hartke and others who have worked diligently on Gerry’s HOF nomination. Also on the good news front, we patiently wait for the restrictions to be gradually lifted on our ability to go about our lives in a normal fashion, which we understand may be occurring soon. On the not so good news front, Jay Flaherty # 9203 passed away May 1, so we are keeping him, Cindy, and family in our thoughts and prayers. We also learned that USA Rugby has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy and the future of USA Rugby is uncertain from a financial perspective let alone the ability for clubs to train and play across the nation due to the COVID-19 crisis. What rugby looks like going forward may be different, but the Executive Committee is working behind the scenes to make sure KCRFC is in a good position for the future. Many if not all of you may have seen in a recent newsletter that we were planning for a June 2020 KCRFC Rugby Ball, however after much consideration and thought on behalf of the Executive Board, we have decided June will likely not be conducive for this celebration due to uncertainties on our ability to come together in addition to securing a location to hold such an event. I hope that everyone understands we are eager to get back to what we all enjoy and love, however need to continue to be mindful of the unprecedented environment we are experiencing. I think it is safe to say that once restrictions are lifted and we are back to a “normal” place – we look forward to scheduling time to come together and kick-off the next chapter of KCRFC Rugby! Stay Strong and Stay Safe KCRFC! Mark Dunning 9518
